Colsefni’s past is steeped in fable, lore, and even superstition. He began his career as a musician in the early 90s playing drums and singing in metal bands in the Iowa region. It was during this era that he met three like-minded metal-obsessed delinquents and Slipknot was born.
There are many grim and ghoulish tales of Anders and his cohorts from this era. Including carrying around jars of dead birds, on-stage bloodletting, and placing audience members in torture apparatuses during the bands’ performances. The legend of the Mate Feed Kill Repeat era of Slipknot is both haunting yet fascinating. A band that was raw, violent, visceral, and volatile; a far cry from the stadium-friendly band the brand became after Anders’s departure.
Although his influence over the formation of Slipknot was monumental and consequently his influence over the direction of modern metal immense, it was the time after he stepped away from the biggest band in the world that created so much mystique and interest.
It takes a certain level of integrity to step away from an opportunity like Slipknot. Anders looked down the barrel of major industry support, viral fan growth, and a payoff he had worked his guts out for five years. He stood at the foot of the machine Slipknot was to become and asked himself “Is this who I am?” The answer was obvious and undeniable to him. At that point, Anders played one more show with the band and left.
Over the past 25 years since his departure from Slipknot Anders has been in and out of the spotlight with his various projects. Post Slipknot, Anders went on to create Painface, which is the consistent band that Anders has released music with over the last twenty-five years. He has also released material with On A Pale Horse, Vice Grip Throttle, and All That Crawls. This entire back catalog is currently being remastered and will be released on Rail Records courtesy of Blood Blast Distribution in late 2023.
Anders is currently gearing up for a Tour of Australia and New Zealand with Waylon Reavis (ex-Mushroomhead) and Kaosis. This is the first tour that Anders will be playing the entire Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat record. This was to serve as a one-off experience but the demand for this tour to extend to America, Europe, Mexico, and South America has been so phenomenal that Anders has agreed to deliver the album in full to his global fanbase in 2024.
