DISTRICT 19 presents
Ellende, founded multi-instrumentalist L.G. in Graz, Austria, began its journey with the debut EP “Rückzug in die Innerlichkeitˮ thirteen years ago. Originally conceived as an introverted, misanthropic, and anonymous project, Ellende has since grown into an internationally recognized live act with session musicians, firmly rooted in the atmospheric black metal genre. While grounded in black metal, Ellendeʼs sound incorporates classical instrumentation such as strings and grand piano, often pushing beyond the boundaries of what is considered traditional within the style.
Over the years, Ellende has released six full-length albums and three EPs. They achieved four official chart positions (Austria: #14, #21; Germany: #31, #37) with recent full-lengths, while the band has performed more than 120 international shows and reached over two million Spotify streams in the past year.
The lyrical themes have evolved alongside the music. From early reflections on misanthropy, nature, and isolation to later explorations of human nature, social criticism, war, loss, despair, and dementia. The upcoming full-length album “Zerfallˮ portrays the state of being shattered into fragments and the slow, painful process of rebuilding oneself: a confrontation with the void and ultimately a triumph over it. Shaped also by a tragic event in the life of its mastermind, Ellendeʼs work continues to fuse raw intensity with profound emotional depth.
Karg was founded back in the summer of 2006 as a one-man project. Between 2010 & 2014 Karg was fully formed as a band to play gigs, formally in Germany, Austria and Central Europe. In the years till 2018 Karg was, like in its beginning, held as a one-man project and released to more albums. With the release of Kargs sixth studio album “Dornenvögel” Karg did celebrate its rebirth as a live band for a few special dates in 2018 & 2019. They did their first real tour supporting their 7th album “Traktat” in February 2020. Since then, and during the years of the pandemic, Karg recorded the EP “Resilienz”, and the albums “Resignation” and “Marodeur”, the second to be released April 18th via AOP Records, the first album by Karg written as a collective. Karg will play a short album release tour through Europe in the release week of “Marodeur” together with Harakiri For The Sky and Swiss Trio E-L-R.
More dates will follow.
The musical style of Karg is a furious, hysteric mixture of Atmospheric Black Metal and a huge load of Post Rock, with influences also from Grunge, Shoegaze and Post Punk. The influences from other genres than Black Metal evolved more and more within the last few years but were there in abridged form since day one. Textual Karg always was about the more melancholic side of life, such as broken relationships, lost love, estrangement, drug abuse, loss or suicide thoughts and depression. In contrast to many other bands Kargs lyrics are as equal important than there music and are written in the dialect written near the Tennen Mountains, where frontman Michael J.J. Kogler grew up.
For over a decade, FIRTAN has been a relentless force in the German Extreme Metal Scene, captivating audiences with their dynamic performances across Europe. Inspired by the raw energy of 90s Black Metal bands, their sound has evolved into a unique, more progressive entity. Powerful guitars and intense, visceral vocals fuse with a haunting presence of the acoustic and electric violin that weaves through FIRTAN’s compositions with melancholic, experimental, and evocative tones.
